The Design
This print is taken from an 1780 engraving by the artist Arthur Young. The image appears in the publication "A Tour in Ireland with unique drawings".
Text accompanying the image in the publication describes the dwellings of the poor:
"The cottages of the Irish, which are all called cabbins, are the most miserable looking hovels that can well be conceived: they generally consist of only one room: mud kneaded with straw is the common material of the walls; these are rarely above seven feet high, and not always above five or six; they are about two feet thick, and have only a door, which lets in light instead of a window,...."
Each Ceramic Print is individually produced ensuring attention to detail and uniqueness - no two are exactly the same.
The images are printed and pressed one at a time onto our specially coated ceramic art tile with a printed faux crackle glaze effect. The effect gives a lovely warmth and antique character to the piece.
