THE CLADDAGH RING
This print shows an image and background information about the treasure.
The Claddagh ring is an iconic symbol of Irish culture and heritage that has been passed down through generations. It is a popular piece of jewellery that is used to show love, loyalty, and friendship
It originated in the fishing village of Claddagh, located near Galway, Ireland. It is said to have been designed by Richard Joyce, a fisherman who was captured by pirates and sold into slavery.
After his release, he returned to Claddagh and crafted the ring as a symbol of his love for his fiancée. The design of the ring features two hands holding a heart, with a crown on top. The hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty.
The ring is often worn on the right hand with the heart facing outwards to indicate that the wearer is single, and on the left hand with the heart facing inwards to indicate that they are in a relationship.
Note: This subject is also available in a square format version in our Treasures of Ireland series.
